The Abbey Hotel: Bath spa
Main MCCB change over panel
During an annual EICR it was recommended due to the age and condition that the MCCB panel was to be replaced in the basement area supplying 16 additional distribution boards which controlled multiple areas of the hotel. Due to hotels working 24hrs a day and the panel controlling all of the hotels power, careful consideration was taken into account working along side the management and maintenance teams to accomplish a safe and smooth transition.
The target was to shut down the power to the hotel and remove the old install and replacing with the new MCCB panel in a short amount of time to fall in line with the hotels requests and keeping disruptions to a minimum.
All possible outcomes were taken into account and contingencies were put in place in an unlikely occurrence that may prevent the power being re energised by having portable generators in place. 2 engineers were assigned to the task, both the operations manager and director were also in attendance.
Planning and preparation was key and building a structural frame and supports in advance were a key part of the change over due to the size difference of the existing and the new panel.
Quadrant and its team were able to achieve the task well within the agreed time limit with no issues and use of any back up generators.
Quadrant were also able to achieve completion of multiple remedial works throughout the hotel to bring the standards up to date and fall in line with current regulations BS7671 18th edition. This also includes further distribution board replacements controlling sensitive equipment. For example, data communication rooms and kitchens.
The hotel management were very pleased with the outcome- A massive well done to our engineers.
